The Prysmian Group, the world's leading supplier of power and telecommunication cable systems, will showcase its integrated, state-of-the-art range of products and services for the onshore and offshore wind power industry at WindEnergy Hamburg 2022. This important industry event will take place in Hamburg from 27 to 30 September (Hamburg Messe und Congress, Hall B6, Stand 553).

Growing demand for renewable electricity, advances in turbine performance, grid hardening and turbine efficiency are key drivers for the industry. High-performance cable systems are among the most important prerequisites here for exploiting the overall potential of wind energy. In order to achieve the European targets of more than 130 GW of offshore wind energy by 2030, the Prysmian Group is investing heavily in the development of innovative, sustainable and cost-effective cable solutions for wind power systems to support the energy transition towards smarter and greener electricity grids.

At WindEnergy Hamburg 2022, Prysmian will present advanced cable technologies for the entire renewable energy sector. The product portfolio covers all turbine and grid connection applications to support sustainable electrification projects and the energy transition, both onshore and offshore. These include: Windflex, the first completely lead-free, ultra-flexible loop cables up to 66 kV, and Feltoflex, plug-in cable solutions up to 155 kV.

Among the most important cable solutions the group will present are dynamic high-voltage cables for subsea applications, which enable the construction of offshore wind farms in areas that are not accessible today due to the great depth of the water. One example is France's first floating offshore wind farm, Provence Grand Large. Prysmian is also developing a new family of 132 kV HVAC inter-array cables that will lead to a reduction in installed cable lengths - due to the reduced number of strands - and lower electrical losses compared to 66 kV.

At the fair, Prysmian will present further technical innovations that set standards worldwide. These include the new extruded 525 kV submarine cable system for HVDC applications. This groundbreaking new development in cable technology enables a massive increase in the maximum transmission capacity of two-pole systems to more than 2.5 GW. This is a doubling of the transmission capacity achieved with the 320 kV DC systems currently in operation. Recently, Prysmian Group has also developed 275 kV HVAC three-conductor cables, which are now available with conductor cross-sections of up to 2000 mm2. These systems enable efficient and reliable power transmission over long distances. Compared to 220 kV, the use of 275 kV voltage enables an increase in transmission power of up to 20 percent. If cable installation costs are taken into account, significant savings per MW transmitted are achieved here.

Also on display is PRY-CAM, a breakthrough technology for monitoring installations. It enables the management of electrical systems and the preservation and protection of high-quality electrical assets thanks to in-depth, accurate data collection, storage and processing in real time.

The fair comes at a very important time, as Prysmian has recently been awarded two major contracts, DolWin4 and BorWin4, worth a total of 800 million euros for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of onshore and submarine cables for two offshore wind farm grid connection systems in the German North Sea. The group's goal is to consolidate its market leadership with a market share of about 35 percent. Overall, it is relying on a solid order intake of over three billion euros (for the "Projects" business unit) in the year to date, so that an order volume of over ten billion euros is foreseeable.
