The Schwerin plant produces medium- and low-voltage cables as well as PVC and rubber compounds.

The site also houses the research and development department for power cables (R&D).

 

The main product groups are:

  • Halogen-free cables and wires with improved fire resistance
  • Marine cables
  • PVC- and XLPE-insulated low-voltage cables

1960Founding of the Schwerin cable factory as Kabelwerk Nord, part of KWO, 54 employees
1963Production of high-voltage cables, wires and ship cables, 1000 employees
1968The Kabelwerk Nord (North Cable Works) receives the status of an independent combine plant within the KWO combine; foundation stone laid for the telecommunications cable hall (Hall 13).
1971The Kabelwerk Nord is the second largest cable factory in the GDR, with 1600 employees.
1976Manufacturing of telecommunications equipment, automotive core cables, suspension cables and consumer goods production
1982Start of production of XLPE-insulated medium-voltage cables
1990Commissioning of an electron accelerator, conversion into Schweriner Kabelwerke GmbH
1992Merger with Siemens AG, commencement of changes to infrastructure and logistics through investment measures amounting to approximately DM 170 million.
1998Transfer to the Pirelli cable plant in Schwerin as part of the sale of the high-voltage cable and line business unit of Siemens AG to Pirelli Cavi e Sistemi S.p.A. in Milan
2002Production relocation from the Pirelli cable plant in Berlin to the cable plant in Schwerin
